A wonderful antique Scottish brooch made during the mid Victorian era, Circa 1860. The piece is modelled in silver and decorated with colourful agates that have been expertly cut to fit the brooches design. They display beautiful earthy colours including some vibrant pink bands and yellow swirls.
Scottish jewellery grew in popularity in the mid- 1800s as Queen Victoria’s frequent trips to her Scottish Castle Balmoral saw her return with Scottish souvenirs and jewellery which influenced the trend in Britain.
A locket is placed in the centre and is chased with a star and decorative border. It opens to reveal a layer of beautiful plaited brown hair preserved behind a glass window and will have belonged to a loved one from long ago.
It’s truly remarkable and a wonderful piece of history to be treasured.
