A remarkable Antique Scottish brooch from the mid Victorian era fashioned in Sterling Silver with three engraved Scottish thistles branching out from the centre set with a faceted Citrine, Amethyst and purple Paste.
Scottish jewellery grew in popularity in the mid- 1800s as Queen Victoria’s frequent trips to her Scottish Castle Balmoral saw her return with Scottish souvenirs and jewellery which influenced the trend in Britain.
The brooches outer border is set with beautiful plaid Agates that display various earthy colours and patterned layers which are naturally formed, earning the stone the appropriate nickname ‘The Earth Rainbow’.
It’s a wonderful Antique treasure and showcases the quality workmanship of the time.
